A working model for a 3D-printed trainer: the bones and discs are printed, and a trainee pins the nerves onto them. Sizes are in millimetres; the scale bar is 50 mm.
The pelvis, organs and nerves were segmented from cryosections of one specimen. The lumbar vertebrae, discs and spinal canal come from a different person's MRI, placed by matching the L4-5 and L5-S1 discs, so the join at L5 is approximate.
The psoas is a first pass with reconstructed sides, and the backplate is a simple slab standing in for the muscles behind the nerves. Neither is finished anatomy.
